The Story
Autistic individuals are both more likely to experience traumatic events and to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after experiencing trauma. In this full-day event, we describe current research on the association of autism with trauma, the recognition of the types of traumas experienced and the impact of trauma on the autistic person’s daily life, family, friendships, relationships and mental health. We provide strategies for support and modifications to therapy for autism. Our presentation is based on recent relevant research and our combined 80 years of experience in autism.
